Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) legislation was introduced in October 2007 to tackle the problems of local flooding caused by water run-off from driveways .
New or extended driveways must either be permeable (allow water to run through the surface) or if the surface is not permeable the water run-off must be collected in a soak-away. This soak-away must located within the boundary of the property. If neither of these options are desirable or possible then planning permission must be obtained.
The legislation has led to an increase in popularity of permeable driveway solutions namely COREGravel and resin bound surfaces.
Creative Gardens and Driveways are experienced in developing SUDS compliant drainage solutions for non-permeable driveways (block paving, tarmac and natural stone). By collecting the water and directing it to a soak-away we are able to avoid the requirement for planning permission.
In certain situations planning permission will need to be obtained and we are able to assist you with this process by completing detailed plans and helping with the planning application.
